Winter Wonders at Wadhurst Castle Cottage!
- Hever Castle’s Snowdrop Walk: (10th February – 11th March 2018.) View the magical trail of over 700,000 snowdrops planted around the childhood home of Anne Boleyn.
- The Highway Rat Trail, Bedgebury Pinetum: (Open daily, check website for details.) Based on the children’s book, The Highway Rat (by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler), the trails at Bedgebury Forest have brought the Highway Rat to life. Simply follow the panels, complete activities and interact with the forest, taking you on a journey with The Highway Rat and friends!
- Clangers, Bagpuss and Co at Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens: (Open daily until 4th February 2018, 11am – 4pm.) With something for both children and those young at heart, catch the end of the wonderful exhibition displaying the original puppets, archive footage and behind the scenes workings of Bagpuss, the Clangers and many others. Try your hand at animating your own characters too!
- Batemans Conservation Guided Tours: (Weekdays 2nd January – 16th February 2018.) A chance to get a behind-the-scenes look at the conversation work being carried out at the former home of Rudyard Kipling. Guided by volunteers, see the team at work and ask questions about the conservation projects.
Bodiam Castle
A glimpse into the splendour of 14th Century life. Bodiam is a moated castle with magnificent ruins where once knights would have lived, loved and fought. The original wooden portcullis still survives in the impressive gatehouse. Seasonal events are staged throughout the year.
Rudyard Kipling’s Bateman’s, East Sussex
The Jacobean home of Rudyard Kipling where he wrote ‘Kim’ remains much as he and his family would have remembered it. It was love at first sight for Kipling when he saw it, with its mullioned windows and oak beams. Visitors can enjoy its delightful gardens on the River Dudwell and its working watermill.
Hever Castle, Kent
The childhood home of Anne Boleyn second wife of Henry VIII, is a double moated castle with panelled rooms containing exquisite tapestries, furniture and one of the best collections of Tudor portraits in the country. It is surrounded by 125 acres to explore including a giant topiary chess set and magnificent lake.

As the family home and garden of Sir Winston Churchill, it contains an unrivalled collection of Churchill paintings, photographs and memorabilia.

There are many lovely walks on our doorstep, including ones around the 140 acres of the Wadhurst Castle Estate. Guests staying at Wadhurst Castle Cottage may view the Castle grounds by prior arrangement.
